The Media Development Center (MDC) prepared the “Analysis of the Decisions of the Broadcasting Council”, adopted in the period July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2013. The Analysis was prepared by Neda Zdraveva, Ph.D. in Law, under the auspices of the USAID Project for Media Legal Reform and Responsible Media.

The Analysis aims to provide an overview of Broadcasting Council’s decisions in terms of its adherence to the rules of the Macedonian media space and possible directions and suggestions for future improvements, an aim arising from the need to fully implement the Law on the Broadcasting Activity.

The Analysis is focused, above all, on the actions of the Broadcasting Council against those broadcasters found in violation of the provisions of the Law and the by-laws adopted by the Council.

The analysis covers a period of 24 months, from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2013. It is based on the findings of regular monitoring of the programmes of Macedonian broadcasters implemented by the Broadcasting Council, both in accordance with monitoring programme and ad hoc actions on submissions and complaints filed by the citizens.

To provide an overview of BC’s actions regarding the monitoring of adherence to the rules of electoral coverage, we also conducted an analysis of Council’s actions related to the media presentation of election campaigns for the 2011 Parliamentary Elections and 2013 local elections.
