The Media Development Centre invites you to the promotion of the guide “Introduction to Investigative Journalism” and the panel-discussion on the situation with investigative journalism in the country. The promotion and the panel-discussion shall be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Holiday Inn Hotel (“Skala 1” Room), starting at 10.00 hours.
The guide “Introduction to Investigative Journalism”, which was translated into Macedonian and Albanian language by the Media Development Centre, was originally published by the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) and is intended for journalists of all generations, primarily for those working in newsrooms of traditional, mainstream media, but also for journalism students, social networks researchers and all people that work on investigative projects. The guide was envisioned as a response to the evident fact that the mainstream media are largely abandoning investigative journalism which has moved, to a great extent, to the online domain and is done by specialized investigative newsrooms. It also is an attempt to answer the need for training in the basic skills of investigative journalism, as assistance to the mainstream media newsrooms.
The panel, which like the guide is part of the project “Investigative Journalism for the Age of Informatino Disorder”, funded by the European Union, shall discuss the guidebook but also the general situation of investigative journalism and the treatment it gets in the traditional, mainstream media.
The “Investigative Journalism for the Age of Information Disorder” aims to contribute to improved quality and sustainability of investigative journalism in North Macedonia, through exchange of skills and knowledge that would held the investigative reporters deal with the challenges brought about the new and chaotic information environment, and to identify new policies for support of investigative journalism, including in the mainstream media.
In addition to representatives of the Media Development Centre, the list of panelists includes Nikolia Apostolou from the Global Investigative Journalism Network; professor Jasna Bačovska-Nedić from the Department of Journalism and Public Relations at the UKIM University in Skopje; Xhelal Neziri from the Balkan Institute for Regional Cooperation (BIRC) and Tamara Chausidis from BIRN Macedonia.
The event is hybrid and some panelists will address the audience over the ZOOM online conferencing platform. You may join in and follow the event over ZOOM, on the link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88248665309?pwd=BVaSHGiwnC2klup4mqsmQqYwNxRTBg.1.
